Updated Mission Statement for "About Us" Section:
Mission Statement:
Massachusetts Power Shift (MAPS) is a non-partisan network of climate activists advocating for immediate, bold, and comprehensive solutions to climate change. We believe that the effects of climate change pose one of the greatest threats in the history of humanity. MAPS calls for action around climate change for social justice, national security, environmental, economic, and moral reasons. If climate change continues to go unchecked, the world will be forever altered: precipitation patterns will change, ocean currents will shift, sea levels will rise, biodiversity will drop drastically, disease will increase, our agricultural and recreation systems will be undermined, and we will see mass human migrations and more violent resource wars. We are already seeing the effects around the globe.
MAPS advocates realize that solutions to climate change can help solve many of society's other problems, by doing such things as reducing pollutants that cause illnesses, minimizing funding of oppressive regimes and terrorist organizations with oil money, creating new jobs, and providing our nation with a goal to rally around to pull ourselves out of our current economic crisis.
MAPS is primarily youth led but open to anyone who wishes to participate. MAPS utilizes the resources and experience of its members to run collaborative campaigns in support of climate solutions, green jobs, and green justice. Through education, training, and networking, MAPS also connects passionate activists with outlets for effective action, ranging from policy creation and promotion to non-violent direct action.
